The Impostors formed as a three-piece in Sonoma County California in 1978 and built a strong following, playing alongside bands like Crime, the Avengers, Dead Kennedys, and the Dils. Their first release was the "Night Time" TV EP on 415 Records, which was followed by the single of "Don't Get Mad" on the same label. The band spent their time touring up and down the west coast and even made their way out to Texas, playing Austin and Dallas. The power pop-styled trio consisted of Dana Doss on guitar, John Schuster on bass and Johnny Campbell on drums. They recorded one full-length album, "Mask" released in 1983. Some of the tracks on that album appear on this fast-paced, energetic 8-track set recorded at the Berkeley Square on August 8, 1980.

The live set is the fourth release in the Liberation Hall "Sounds from the San Francsico Underground" series of shows recorded by bay area soundman Terry Hammer.
